Ethical Sourcing & Materials

Effective June 10, 2026 · Applies to all visitors, account holders, and recipients of any RingsToday service or communication.

Why this policy exists

A diamond ring is a long-lived object that carries the story of how it was made. RingsToday only sells stones and metals whose origin we can document, with vendors whose labor and environmental practices we can defend. This page is the standing version of those rules.

1. Diamonds

  • Lab-grown is the default. The majority of stones in our catalog are IGI-graded lab-grown diamonds produced by HPHT or CVD methods in the United States, India, or other auditable origins. Lab-grown is disclosed clearly — never represented as natural — on the catalog page, on the order confirmation, and on the IGI report itself.
  • Natural diamonds are Kimberley Process compliant. Every natural stone we sell is sourced from a supplier that warrants its compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties. We retain the warranty statements with the order record.
  • No undisclosed treatments. Clarity-enhancement, color-treatment, HPHT post-growth annealing, or laser drilling on a stone we sell is disclosed in writing on the catalog page and on the order confirmation.
  • Grading independence. All stones above 0.50 carat are graded by an independent laboratory — primarily the International Gemological Institute (IGI), with selected GIA reports. We do not regrade in-house and will not pressure a lab to revise a grade.

2. Metals

  • Recycled when we can. We prioritize refiners that supply 100% recycled gold and platinum certified under SCS-103 or equivalent.
  • Responsible new mining when we cannot. Where recycled stock is unavailable, the refiner’s newly mined material must be sourced under the Responsible Jewellery Council Code of Practices or an equivalent framework.
  • Stamped and tested. Every metal item is stamped to the alloy (14k, 18k, PT950) and verified before shipment.

3. Colored gemstones

When a recipient chooses a colored gemstone (sapphire, emerald, ruby, or other), the stone’s country of origin is disclosed where the lab can determine it, and any treatment (heat, oil, beryllium diffusion, glass fill) is disclosed in writing. We will not sell a stone whose origin or treatment we cannot honestly describe.

4. Vendor code of conduct

Every vendor and bench partner we work with must, at minimum:

  • Comply with applicable labor law in the jurisdiction where the work is performed, including minimum wage, working-hour, and overtime rules.
  • Prohibit child labor (no person under 16, no person under 18 in hazardous tasks) and forced labor.
  • Provide a workplace free of discrimination and physical or verbal abuse.
  • Maintain documented health-and-safety practices proportional to the work.
  • Allow RingsToday or our designated auditor a documentary review on reasonable notice.

A documented violation that is not remediated on a reasonable schedule ends the relationship.

5. Environmental practices

Lab-grown stones reduce land disturbance and avoid open-pit extraction, but they consume electricity. We prefer growers whose facilities are powered by renewable or low-carbon sources where available, and we ask for documentation. Recycled metals avoid most of the impact of new mining; we choose them first.

6. No conflict, sanctions, or embargo violations

We do not knowingly source from regions or entities subject to U.S. sanctions or under embargo, and we will not transact with parties listed on the OFAC SDN list or equivalent EU/UK lists.

7. Reporting a concern

Anyone — customer, vendor, employee, or member of the public — can report an ethical concern to concierge@ringstoday.com. Reports may be anonymous. We will acknowledge within 5 business days, investigate, and take corrective action where the report is substantiated. We do not retaliate against good-faith reporters.

If your concern relates to a wholesale vendor in our supply chain and you would prefer an independent escalation path, you can also raise it with The Jewelers Board of Trade — our industry credit-rating body and trade membership association — at membership@jewelersboard.com or 401-467-0055. JBT is independent of RingsToday.

8. Updates

We review this policy annually and update it when our supplier base, certifications, or applicable law change. Material changes are summarized at the top of the page.
